The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) announced that two-time Olympic champion Marie-Philip Poulin and three-time Olympic champion Charles Hamelin will be Team Canada’s flag bearers for the Beijing Olympic Games Opening Ceremony.
Poulin is competing in her fourth Olympic Games with the Canadian women’s hockey team, while Hamelin will be the first Canadian short track speed skater to compete in five Olympic Games.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) encouraged each National Olympic Committee to nominate one female and one male athlete to jointly carry the flag. It is the second straight Winter Games Canada has had dual flag bearers. Ice dancers Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir shared the honour in PyeongChang in 2018.
The Opening Ceremonies are Friday at 6 a.m. in Saskatchewan and can be viewed on CBC Sports.
