Carroll, Erlam, Ouellette and Wiens earn spot with Canada in Paris

Four Saskatchewan individuals were announced to two Canadian aquatic teams on Wednesday.

Representing Canada in July at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games in diving, will be Mary Carroll, Margo Erlam and Rylan Wiens with Hannah Ouellette representing the red-and-white in Para swimming at the Paralympic Games in August.

Pike Lake’s Wiens made his first Olympic appearance at the 2020 Tokyo Games, where he missed qualifying for semi-finals by one spot. He qualified Canada at spot for Paris 2024 at the World Aquatics Championships in February, after receiving 489.20 points in the men’s 10-metre single platform final. Wiens also competed with partner, Nathan Zsombor-Murray, in the 10-m synchronized event and qualified Canada with 388.20 points.

Erlam, who hails from Saskatoon, qualified for her first Olympics at the Canadian Diving Trials in May, after claiming the top of the podium with 512.85 points in the women’s open 3-m event.

Saskatoon’s Carroll coached Wiens for his 2020 Olympic debut and again will accompany both athletes as their coach for the duration of the 2024 Games.
